Dead Birds by WeCanMake
We were invited to create a music video for Dead Birds a song from musician and friend Sami Fitz. Sami gave us an open brief on the project. On hearing the haunting lyrics and vocal we decided to create a piece that was about nature, death and adaptation. It's always daunting working with an open brief, the mind races about the possibilities. We decided to approach it like a moving sketchbook. Creating small experiments in animation and seeing where it led. The imagery was choreographed but the animation technique was more experimental, allowing for happy accidents. The video followed on from our last piece for Sami - Wide Open Sky.

MEC Presents: Escape by MEC
Listen to the voice inside you. It’s telling you to go. JaBig, a Montreal-based DJ, buys a bike on a whim and decides to attempt to beat the record for the longest continuous bike ride in a single country. What’s more, he’ll ride a single-speed, fixed-gear bicycle and finish in the winter, approaching the Arctic Ocean by way of Canada’s northernmost continental hamlet, Tuktoyaktuk in the Northwest Territories. We pick up with him as he’s closing in on his endpoint along a 188km-long ice road. In his final kilometres, he falls more times than he has in the previous 17,000km combined. JaBig knows he is where he is meant to be, but the final hours will push him further than he ever imagined. The journey is bleak and beautiful at the same time, and JaBig’s story will make you pause, asking yourself, “where would I go from here?” For the Director's statement and more info visit: https://ift.tt/2PzW5vz

UKKO | Storm-lapse by Riku Karjalainen
Ukko, the god of sky and thunder, is arguably the most revered deity in Finnish mythology and folklore. Ancient Finns would pray to the old man of the skies for good weather or rain for the crops. Ukko was both respected and feared, as the god of the skies could easily turn the life-giving rain into a thunderstorm (Finnish: ukkonen), had he not been appeased. Ukko storm-lapse takes you on a journey through remote and unspoilt Finnish lakes, wetlands and fells, where one can still witness the relentless and untameable forces of nature at play, unhindered by man’s comforts. Experience the storm as our ancestors did. In ancient times people tended to the balance of nature with offerings to Ukko in hopes of favourable weather. Modern mankind, however, has long since forgotten this ancient balance, as we offer very little and take even more. We could learn a great deal from our ancestor’s relationship with nature. Timelapse and video material from this film is available for licensing in 4K resolution. (Lundhags) A Nordic Skater by Paulius Neverbickas
A Nordic Skater is a very first film about this little known sport. It features Per Sollerman, a photographer who has been skating on frozen lakes and fjords for the past 10 years. During 6 captivating minutes, the viewer is transported to the region of Oslo to have a peek at a story of a man who uses every sense he has to travel on thin ice. Per tells the story of how the little known sport of nordic skating came to play a big part in his life. “It is rooted deep in our bones that we need to be out in the nature,” he says. Directed, shot and edited by Paulius Neverbickas. Music by Luca Nioi. Monsoon V (4K) by Mike Olbinski
BluRay discs (new combo BluRay of Monsoon I-V) available here: https://ift.tt/1NmxOlE Follow me: http://twitter.com/mikeolbinski / http://facebook.com/mikeolbinskiphotography / http://instagram.com/mikeolbinski Music: Avalon and Legend by Ryan Taubert (through TheMusicbed.com, sign-up for licensing here:https://ift.tt/2xOgKSE) ------------------------ My original plan this past summer was to collect as much footage as normal, but to not put out a "Monsoon V" until 2019 when I had two years worth of crazy haboobs and lightning to make it truly spectacular. But the monsoon had different plans and put on a pretty dang good show in 2018, starting off with a decent dust storm on July 5th, then the best haboob chase I've ever had on July 9th, an epic green hail core on July 11th and finally another fantastic dust storm day on August 2nd. Sprinkled in there...more dust storm, some at night, spectacular lightning, and tons of microbursts and stormy clouds, plus a few rotating supercells to put some icing on the cake. It was one of the best monsoon seasons I've chased, so I couldn't help but get to work on Monsoon V a few weeks ago. I love doing these films so much. So much hard work for months on end goes into capturing them. Almost 15,000 miles this summer across Arizona. 85,000+ frames with plenty more deleted. A total of 32 days out there chasing over three months. Sleep deprivation, tons of gas money, crappy food and yes, sometimes missing storms I wish I had been on. But the highs were amazing. Chasing with my kiddos...sharing the July 9th haboob bonanza with Lyla and Eli...or an all-night chase with my youngest, Asher. They were so awesome to have along. Two workshops with five fantastic people. Both were so fun and the storms we saw were just wonderful. I feel so blessed to teach people and show the monsoon off to those who have never seen it before. Big, huge thanks to my buddy Jay Worsley for helping mix the songs on this film to extend them a bit and even blend two songs together. You're a life-saver my friend and your skills are unmatched! As always is the case...this year, including tornado season, I chased the most I ever have. Which means more time away from home. And Jina...my incredible wife...she's so supportive of my passion and this business. Taking care of the kids and running everything at home during those months...I am forever amazed at how she always has my back, even during the times when it's too hard and she'd rather not. I can't thank her enough for allowing me to chase my dreams. I do want to thank all of you watching this...over the years, so many people have seen the films, left kind words, purchased DVDs, prints and even books. I don't know how many people asked me this year about when Monsoon V was coming out, and I have to say...it was extremely motivating. So thank you for the support and kind words of encouragement and excitement about these storm movies...I can honestly say you are a huge reason why I keep making them! Technical Details: Everything shot with two Canon 5DSRs and various Canon lenses. Might be a couple lightning sequences with the Sony A7R3 Processed in Lightroom, LR Timelapse, After Effects and Premiere Pro.
