The Tracers - An inside look at the Real-Life Database of America's Firearms. by Steven Brahms

There's no telling how many guns we have in America—and when one gets used in a crime, no way for the cops to connect it to its owner. The only place the police can turn for help is a Kafkaesque agency in West Virginia, where, thanks to the gun lobby, computers are illegal and detective work is absurdly antiquated. On purpose. Thing is, the geniuses who work there are quietly inventing ways to do the impossible. I Am Sun Mu by Journeyman Pictures

Watch the full film here: http://ift.tt/2bk7bQC I Am Sun Mu: The life and work of North Korean defector turned political pop artist Sun Mu, a senior North Korean propaganda artist, escapes to the South and now uses his talent to make fun of the Supreme Leader through satirical political pop art. Offered a high profile solo exhibition in China, he could never have expected the hostility he would attract from the authorities. As he puts his exhibition together the forces against him grow. A tense narrative coupled with powerful imagery defines this unusual documentary. “It all happened very suddenly." A crowd of bystanders gather in the closed-off streets that surround an art gallery encircled by police cars, anxious to understand what the commotion is. Behind the gallery walls lies the first ever solo exhibition of propaganda-artist-turned-defector Sun Mu, who has fled from North Korea to Beijing in search of refuge. As a young child growing up in North Korea, Sun Mu always had a burning desire to represent the unrepresentable. Artistically influenced not by other painters but instead by dictators, Sun Mu recalls locking himself in his room to paint a picture of Kim Il Sung. “Before it was even dry, I burned it.” Years later, Sun Mu’s satirical political pop art has admirers, and when he is offered his first solo exhibition in Beijing he knows that he is dancing with the devil. His provocative work is sure to stir conflict with the authorities who are nervous of upsetting their sensitive North Korean neighbours. As he looks over a painting of Kim Jong Il stood proudly in front of an upside down flag – a bold and blatant reference to a backwards nation - he remembers how his hands trembled as he painted: “I always had a fear that someone might sneak up behind me and stab me.” Sun Mu’s anxious wife, on the other hand, is kept awake at night by the fear of the family being taken hostage. As the opening day of Sun Mu’s exhibition finally arrives, police and government officials turn up at the gallery in search of the man behind the paintings, ready to interrogate… The film is a powerful portrayal of a man who searches for freedom while concealing his own identity in the face of an oppressive political regime. Freedom for Liberland! by MEL Films

Sometimes it's easier to start your own country than to change the one you're in. According to the internationally recognized law of terra nullius (“nobody’s land”), if no one has a claim on land, anyone at all can claim it as their own. Or at least they can try. This is how Czech politician and activist Vít Jedlička founded Liberland, a sliver of land along the Danube River between Croatia and Serbia that went unclaimed after Yugoslavia was dissolved in the 1990s. Essentially, Jedlička called terra nullius and declared the land to be Liberland, a Libertarian utopia in the heart of Eastern Europe. Although Serbia seems okay with the idea, Croatia has been less receptive. It’s been arresting wannabe Liberlandians for trespassing — including Jedlička. But that hasn’t stopped him from pursuing recognition for his country. One year after planting the flag, Vit has called together a conference to mark the first anniversary of Liberland. But best laid plans fall apart when Vit tries to attend.

Sonst nichts / Nothing else by Drushba Pankow

Embed code not found.

Sonst nichts / Nothing else was the second animated short film by Volker Schlecht. The production was supported by a post graduation scholarship and a grant of the country Saxony-Anhalt. The film was produced 1999/2000 in Prague at the animation studios Bratri v triku at Barrandov, drawn on paper and photographed under a traditional rostrum camera on 35mm. The division of the screen into two different parts was made possible by a special construction, invented by the camera operator Jan Chvoika. This upload is dedicated to the memory of our great teacher Eva Natus-Salamoun (+2014), who made this collaborative work possible. Many thanks to Detelina Grigorova-Kreck and Joachim Kreck (distribution) for their permission!

The Accidental Origin of the Hit Song ‘American Woman’ by Great Big Story

The song “American Woman” by The Guess Who wasn't ever supposed to happen. It wasn't planned, staged or pre-mediated. Yet you all know the iconic riff. Sometimes all it takes for a hit song to form is an accident, a bit of luck and a whole lot of inspiration. For Randy Bachman and The Guess Who, that's exactly what happened.

An Aerial Perspective of Nordland by Michael Fletcher

I have recently returned from two trips to the Nordland region of Norway, specifically Lofoten. This time of the year is influenced by the Midnight Sun or Midnattsol. The days don't end with the sun never disappearing below the horizon. I always wondered what it would be like to fly around and film these mountains when I first visited this place and on this trip I finally got the opportunity to do so. Along with fellow drone pilot Alan Mathieson from Outback Drones I have put together a short compilation of some of the scenes we were able to capture using the incredible DJI Phantom 4. This is the fourth generation Phantom I have owned and the advances from my very first Phantom 1 are staggering. Terrain avoidance, return to home, point of interest, no fly zones, and other features make this the easiest and safest drone yet. It is also the easiest drone to travel with. It's small form factor and light weight make it a dream to carry onto a plane and the batteries are small enough in power output to not alarm security offices at airports all over the world. Lofoten is incredible. A beautiful landscape made on a hollywood set. Surely it cant be real? The conditions we encountered made flying a dream. Light winds and low cloud everywhere. A scale to a suitable vantage point and we were in the box seat. This is just a taste of some of the most incredible footage I have ever shot with a drone and the reason for posting this clip purely with drone footage. My very first all drone video in fact. And whats even cooler is I'm posting this clip on the fourth anniversary of getting my very first drone. Thanks to good friend Alan Mathieson from Outback Drones for shooting this piece with me and keeping all our flight ops controlled and safe. It's a pleasure to operate with a professional drone operator. Also special mention to my music score partner in crime Jo Quail who as always allowed me to use her incredible music in another one of my projects of passion. I'm hooked on flying drones after this trip and cant wait to get back in February next year to fly these amazing alps totally covered in snow. Enjoy. Memento Mori A film by Sebastian-Linda.de - FB: on.fb.me/1xVxHAX
 - www.sebastian-linda.de _____________________ In my childhood I often could´t sleep. I was scared of going to sleep and never waking up again. I imagined I´d be buried in a place of darkness, forever and ever, being awake until the end of all days. _____________________ For the film of Memento Mori I went together with my wife Sophia to visit Giuseppe Spagnuolo in South Italy. He lives there as the last resident in his hometown Roscigno Vecchia which is one of the many lost villages in italy. We had a great day with him hanging out in the sun, feeding cats and dogs and filming awesome shots with him, never getting tired. More to come in the Making of... But we are inclined to have in our mind, a picture of this of being shut up in the dark for always and always, to be kind of buried alive in the blackness And we think Ooh this is it This is the end And so at death we withdraw no no no, not that Not yet Please! And you accepted it. And suddenly something changed There was a strange feeling that everything is absolutely clear. You suddenly see that there isn´t a grain of dust in the whole universe that´s in the wrong place. The reason we die is to give us the opportunity to understand what live is all about. Just think When you opened your eyes on the world, for the first time as a child How brilliant colors were What a jewel the sun was. What marvel the stars. Memento Mori Be mindful of death. Overthinking by yael weiser

A short video about having too many thoughts. The subject I chose, over thinking, is something most people deal with at some degree. We tend to twist thoughts around our head until they lose any connection with reality, making billions of connections every minute and soaking up information like sponges. I wanted to share what is going on inside my head by creating a world, that like my thoughts - is sometimes restless and makes no sense. Music by Tomer Mor: https://soundcloud.com/leescratchterry

Unbroken Ground by Patagonia

Unbroken Ground explains the critical role food will play in the next frontier of our efforts to solve the environmental crisis. It explores four areas of agriculture that aim to change our relationship to the land and oceans. Most of our food is produced using methods that reduce biodiversity, decimate soil and contribute to climate change. We believe our food can and should be a part of the solution to the environmental crisis – grown, harvested and produced in ways that restore our land, water and wildlife. The film tells the story of four groups that are pioneers in the fields of regenerative agriculture, regenerative grazing, diversified crop development and restorative fishing.

Kaitlyn Aurelia Smith - "When I Try, I'm Full" (Official Music Video) by Jules Guerin

"When I Try, I'm Full" from the album EARS released April 1st 2016 on Western Vinyl. A hand-drawn music video created by Jules Guérin. An organic cell is born. Its birth drives us through a shamanic vision where it will evolve with music, becoming more complex while mineral, organic, and cosmic elements orbit around it to transform it to its final state. This is the source of endless possibilities. This is me – My other life as a photographer by Lars Schneider

This is a short and personal piece about my life as a photographer, when I am not on assignment, shooting for clients in the outdoor, travel or lifestyle industry. In February 2016 a camera followed me on a trip to the beautiful Faroe Islands shooting landscapes in medium format, enjoying wild nature and a harsh environment that creates a scenery and mood that I love for photos and that makes me feel very alive. But see for yourself. I hope you'll enjoy it ... DOP/edit/grading/sound design: Peter Bender (www.peterbender.org) – thanks so much, man!!! www.outdoor-visions.com www.larsschneider-landscapes.com

Des résidus analytiques. by jonstudio

Analytical residues. It all begins whith a mistake. A man spends his whole life expecting a hotline advisor to answer his call. Another makes the earth's circumference in his living room. A group of tourists follows the gouide. This my graduation film from EMCA, Angoulême.
